Embarking on a journey to grasp the essence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in drug discovery can initially appear daunting. In this fast-evolving world, new algorithms and technologies are released almost daily. Whilst these lead to rapid improvements in model predictions and efficiencies, it also means keeping track of cutting-edge AI is challenging. Yet, understanding AI's fundamentals and emerging technologies is pivotal to help drug hunters select the most adapted solution to each programme.
AI primarily aims to make sense of big data beyond what is accessible to the human brain, and already is an established companion for drug hunters and clinicians. Its impact can be felt across the drug discovery process from target identification through to clinical evaluation. Whilst data quality and accuracy of the models are still obvious challenges in AI-driven drug discovery, success stories are coming thick and fast. AI is an increasingly prominent tools used in the pharmaceutical industry with many AI-based companies now entering clinical stages.
Central to understanding AI's role in drug discovery is acknowledging its symbiotic relationship with human interaction. While AI technologies empower scientific advancements, it's the synergy between human ingenuity and AI capabilities that truly fosters optimal outcomes.
The future is bright for AI.
